In 2019, we admit that Human Heroes was having a lazy year but the holidays are nearing and we’re going all out! Our Youtube channel is up and running! Everything you want to know about how we started, named, and promoted our nonprofit is up there. So are videos about our work these past two years and the exciting plans we have for the 2019 holiday season! Stay tuned :)
2018 Holidays
In 2018, Human Heroes made health and hygiene packages for the homeless in Miami, Florida. Packages were handed out to those in need as we saw them.
Christmas for the Innocent, a nonprofit organization in Florida, was kind enough to allow us to volunteer with them at the Boys and Girls club where they had a Santa dress up, take photos with the kids, and allowed kids to pick out gifts for the holiday season. There were lots of gifts and it was such a overwhelming and joyful experience!
They welcomed us to join again and bring baked goodies to the church where they hosted a similar event after the church service ended. We are grateful for the opportunity and we hope to host our own events in the future.
2018 Accomplishments
Human Heroes is excited to share that in 2018, we opened our bank account and set up “Donate” buttons on our Facebook page and our website. Please be mindful that our website service uses Stripe which charges a fee (that does NOT go to the nonprofit or us personally), however Facebook waives the fees and sends the full donation amount to our nonprofit account. You are free to use whichever you prefer.
Using personal funds, we also trademarked our name with the USPTO! Unfortunately we had to deal with some legal issues over another nonprofit concerned about the single word “Heroes” in both of our names. Unfortunately, this was very stressful considering we are currently a small nonprofit with no means, energy, or finances to deal with a complicated and extensive legal matter. This also took time and energy that could have been contributed towards our holiday volunteer work.
Also at the time I thought of the name, it was an original idea and no other organizations or businesses appeared in the USPTO search results before we filed the trademark application. Eventually the other nonprofit repealed their opposition to our trademark name if we agreed to further specify the nature of our cause. The matter was resolved and we are now trademarked which protects our name, brand, and what we do!
At the end of the year, Human Heroes used personal funds to make over 100 packages for the homeless that contained hats, scarves, gloves, thermal heat packets, snacks, water, hygiene supplies, and the occasional $1.
Another local nonprofit (Bridging RVA), located in the Richmond area, were kind enough to let us drop off these packages at their Christmas event hosted in a beautiful synagogue. Bridging RVA fed hot meals to hundreds of people in need, offered gifts, had Santa, and allowed us to contribute our packages to their abundant pile. Please check out their work in the community.
We are grateful for the opportunity. We also personally handed out packages to those on the street whom we passed by.
The Year of 2017
Human Heroes started off as an idea and a Gofundme page in 2016 that received no attention. During the year of 2017, Human Heroes became more. Our nonprofit received an EIN, was incorporated with the state of Virginia, and officially registered as a 501(c)(3). We also officially set up our website and social media accounts. Check us out!
We have humble roots in Richmond, Virginia. We hope to give back to our communities and continue to expand.
